Optional subjects for Mains

How to Choose your subjects for the Mains exam:

Choosing an optional subject is one of the important factor for success. The students who are appearing for the first time waste lot of time on this issue.  Now that KPSC has done away with specific subjects at the preliminary stage, students should perhaps find it easier to get down to preparation straight away.Even then one should choose two optional subjects for main exam, that should be done well before exam itself. Usually people waste their valuable time thinking about best optional subjects after qualifying in preliminary exam.

Optional subjects should be selected based on their familiarity with the subjects. The subjects which you studied till graduation and the one in which you are good at may serve best option. While selecting the optional subjects students should also consider facts such as materials available  coaching classes and interest in subject matter. Do not always listen to your coaching class guys, they will promote you to take the subjects which they are offering rather then your interest. The new trend in KPSC is there are many science background students from last 2 years, Even science students are taking popular subjects as Public Administration, Kannada literature and Rural Development & Co-Operation. So consider all these factor while choosing optional subjects. In KAS exam 2010 and 2012 many took Kannada literature, Rural Development & Co-Operation and Public Administration.

Analyse the syllabus of previous years and the question papers, and analyse past trends. Get some feedback/advice from seniors and fellow students who are well versed in the subject Lastly look for overlap in subjects like, sociology and Public Administration ; history and political science etc.
